Right now I am reading Crush It!: Why NOW Is the Time to Cash In on Your Passion by Gary Vaynerchuk and because of how much I love the book I also subscribed to his blog. His video post today is titled “The YES Virus” and I think it’s pretty helpful to any of us who have ever had it/still have it. What is it? Watch the video and find out. I know I had the virus, but I am working to shed myself of it. I have come to realize that my time is mine to control and I need to be better about what I do with it. Take a look:
I really enjoyed this video! In general, I love seeing people mature as humans and as men/women, especially as they draw from their own life experience. This “yes virus” also applies to money. I got a call from Christian Children’s Fund a while ago asking if I was able to sponsor another child. The caller had a very effective and convincing “sales” pitch while telling me about the little boy at the top of their list. I explained to the caller–very respectfully and politely–that in addition to the one child I already sponsored through CCF, I had two more in other organizations and at the current time was not able to take on another. She thanked me for everything I had been doing already, and it turned out to be the most pleasant “spam” call I have ever received. It was very difficult to say no to her and to this little boy, but I really believe you MUST draw the line between providing for others and taking care of yourself. This line is different for everyone, and finding it and living it is an important part of becoming human.
