It’s time for another roundup of 10 items to leave my house this week! This is the third week of the 10 Things Challenge (here is Week 1 and Week 2 if you are interested). More and more readers are taking part and doing their own 10 Things Challenge, and some of them are even coming by to leave a comment about what they are getting rid of. I love this type of encouragement! If you want to take part, gather up 10 things in your house to get rid of, and leave a comment on each week’s post letting us all know what you are doing. The more of us involved, the better – and imagine the clutter that is being discarded! As for me, here are the 10 items I am getting rid of this week, and where I am sending each one of them:
1. Case of poker chips I have been carrying around since 1998 and haven’t used once. ->Goodwill.
2. Phone car charger for a phone I no longer own. ->Free box
3. Another Metallica VHS tape. ->Free box
4. Poison VHS tape. ->Free box
5. Yet another Metallica VHS tape. ->Free box
6. Random ZIP and other old disk media (Counting as one item) ->Recycling
7. Specialized USB cord for printer I no longer have. ->Free box
8. Two Kenneth Cole dress shirts from when I was heavier. ->Goodwill
9. Book of cheesy poems (Sorry, Mom) ->Library
10. Book of cover letter samples from 2001 ->Library

So, there you have it – 10 more things leaving my house less cluttered. What 10 things are you getting rid of this week?
I’m on week two of doing this challenge, and I love it! I have so much stuff that just sits around, and for me the biggest motivation is the hope that someone will pick up something I gave to a thrift store and make it their own.
This is an awesome idea. I went with big stuff this week as we’re getting rid of some unwanted furniture. Next week, it will be smaller and more random items.
1. Old futon frame – posting on craigslist for free
2. Old kitchen table – giving to a younger sibling who needs one
3. Set of 4 kitchen chairs – same as the table
4. Unused AC unit – gave to a friend
5. Bag of clothes – donated to Good Will (it was a big bag too!)
6. Spice rack – we keep our spices in a drawer so I gave ours to a friend
7. Old vacuum cleaner – this one is kind of cheating because we bought a new vacuum cleaner
8. A few plants – we have too many so I’m donating a couple to a friend
9. Two end tables – they don’t match our furniture so we just had them sitting in the garage, will post on craigslist for free
10. Unwanted metal shelf – giving to a friend
Nicely done Kristi – I am sure that feels like a load off. It only gets more difficult now! 😉
To get going on my second week of decluttering I yesterday did THE thing I have postponed all summer – cleaned out the shed. Let me tell you I can keep going with this challenge forever! /Mimmi
Sidetracked this week by working overtime and an abundance of garden veggies etc needing canning. Plus free Tuna, Salmon (smoke then can), and a semi-trailer of corn toppled over resulting in free corn…which of course we are busy canning some of it as fast as possible…
Nevertheless….
Cardboard boxes saved up for shipping/storage – to recycling.
Glass jars that are not canning jars and that canning lids will NOT fit on – to recycling.
Wine bottles – why was I saving these? – to a friend of a friend who makes homemade wine…ok -so one of the bottles may find it’s way back to me, and that’ll be ok.
Assorted “Free Finds” pots and containers I was going to use for container gardening, but I got the raised beds in instead.
Old undies – lost 25 lbs and they just needed to go 🙂
OK – so that’s not 10 but the corn canning will continue too far into the night to do more for a couple days! Then more zucchini relish…and more tuna… Gotta work WITH the seasons – not against them 🙂
I’ve been busy (and lazy, lol) so I missed a week but I’ve been trickling stuff out of my house. There are also a few things that I put in a box so I’ll see if I miss them in a couple months.
1. Readymade magazines (2 years worth): sold on ebay
2. A totebag I bought that didn’t work for college: sold on ebay
3. Set of samurai swords: Gave to my brother
4. Emptied out a plastic tote of wrapping paper (guess who inspired that one ; ) ): Give to mom

Good job everyone, Lets all keep it up!

I’ve just done 60 items; I’ll be boxing them tomorrow, and sending them to a safe-house that’s run by a Lakota indian who lives in South Dakota.
If you want to write me to get the contact person’s information so you can send un-needed items to a group of people who live in the 2nd most poverty-stricken place in the nation, write me at kcir114112@cmaaccess.com
Here is a bit from what information I’ve retained about their charitable efforts:
Program Needs:
ONE Spirit supports or helps support: emergency food banks, heater distribution, emergency home repairs (such as roofs blown off), micro-loans for business start-ups, emergency transportation, and cultural opportunities, such as the Big Ride. You can help by contributing to one or more of these programs. Our newsletter gives information about these programs and their success—please visit http://www.nativeprogress.org. Even if you are not able to become a regular sponsor, you might want to consider a contribution toward this fund.
Visit the web-site; you can contact Regina Hay who is the sponsor coordinator – I’ll be sending about 10 boxes via USPO throughout the rest of this week.
Oh yes, Regina told me used sheets; towels, soap, shampoo, combs, and other personal grooming items will help since these 15 teen-agers have been put in the safe-house because one or more of their parents are abusers and/or users of drugs and alcohol.
It’s a super-worth cause, and those 10 items that you call ‘clutter’, can be called ‘miracles’ to these people.

No offense, but please don’t give your old books to the library. I’m a librarian and I can assure you we don’t want your clutter any more than you do. People think libraries are like Salvation Armies for books.
Actually, my library put ads in the paper asking for books, so I beg to differ.
My library also ASKS for books… they use them in their used book store for extra revenue, they sell them on ebay if valuable, and they have big twice a year “Rummage” sales of books and current donated magazines at each of the 6 branches of the county library.
It’s a big part of their budget.
Hello I have recently come across your blog whilst searching Yahoo and just wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading a few of the posts on the site, and will be back to take a look again as well as to comment for myself.
