10 Things Challenge – Week Six.

Posted: September 16th, 2009 | 10 Comments »

It’s now Week 6 in the 10 Things Challenge and I cannot believe how much stuff I have A. found in my house and B. gotten rid of. When I brought all my goodies over to the free box, they nearly attacked me to get the stuff out of my hands. Glad someone else has a use for my unwanted belongings! More and more of you are getting involved doing your own challenge at home, and I really like that some people are leaving comments on these posts with their own lists. It’s all very encouraging! Here is what I am getting rid of this week:

1. Ugly white mug ->Free Box
2. Frame->Free Box
3. Frame->Free Box
4. Frame->Free box
5. Frame->Free box
6. Big bag of acrylic paints->Free box
7. Old external hard drive ->Friend
8. Broken plate/dish ->Free Box
9. Document organizer->Free box
10. Coupon organizer->Free box

    I can only agree with the wow-factor on how much useless stuff one has laying about the house. I intended to join your challenge for 15 weeks initially, but now I am convinced I could easily hang in there for at least 25. Maybe I’ll just finish off with a great finale 10*10 as I am so pleased with the feeling of uncluttering. Thanks for the inspiration! Mimmi

    Good on ya David! I’ve been living out of my luggage for the last month and to honest I haven’t missed anything yet! It’s liberating to dump unnecessary STUFF huh?

    This week is a huge box of clothes – way more than ten items – to the women’s crisis center thrift store.

    Next week is the other closet – so another box of clothes will go out to the same place.

    Love your site.
    Out of curiosity, when you put something in the ‘free box’, where do the items end up? i.e. who are you giving them to? What’s the difference between your free box and goodwill?

  8. 8 David said at 8:07 am on September 19th, 2009:

    Goodwill usually sells their donated items in their stores. In my town, there is a “free box” near the recycling center, where you can drop off your stuff and people can come and go through it, taking what they want. :)

    My goal is to live life “cordless” – untethered, and so I’m glad to have this exercise giving me a *reason* to chuck stuff. Thanks for getting it started, David. That being said, the next wave of the Great Purge includes:

    1. functional keyboard for a computer I no longer own
    2. mouse for the same
    3. tin of antique buttons
    4. novelty/occasion napkins
    5. Graco pack-n-play
    6. travel styrofoam cooler
    7. handbag
    8. desk top fan
    9. assorted office supplies/tape dispenser
    10. camera

    (All on their way to Goodwill this afternoon).
